2018 WORKS
BUBBA
3x2ft
acrylic on canvas
This was a Christmas gift for my mother. It is a painting of my dog, Bubba. This was the first time IÂ seriously used acrylics and at the time, was the biggest piece I had ever made. I like experimenting with the saturation and colors, and I like to find colors in things that you wouldn't normally see colors in, like a white dog.
PRESSED FOR TIME
12x9in
acrylic, watercolor, colored pencils
This is a self-portrait and, to this day, this has to be one of the best pieces of art I have ever made. This was the first time I had seriously used colored pencils, as they now are one of my favorite media. This was also the first time I had attempted to do a photorealistic portrait, of course, with my own touch, like the colors I use that you wouldn't normally see in skin/a face. This piece sparked my love for portraits, and I love furthering this style as I progress as an artist.
PILLS
8x10in
watercolor
In this piece, I wanted to practice my observational work, and become more comfortable with using watercolor. These are some of the medications I was taking at the time of this piece, and I hoped to capture the yellow and oranges of the ordinary thing that is pill bottles.
DOE
9x12in
watercolor
This is another observational piece I completed in the summer. The reference for this comes from an actual doe i saw resting in a garden while on my annual trip to Michigan. This piece also sparked the love I have for painting animals, and I wanted to capture the innocent stare I got from the doe while taking its picture.
MOLDING
18x12in
acrylic
This was a collaborative piece I did with the creative writing department at my school. I did this piece as a visual to go with my partner's short story, which included strawberries rotting from the hot summer air.
SUMMER FRUIT
9x12in
acrylic
This piece was done in the summer when I was surrounded by colorful fruit. Previously to making this piece, I had never attempted to make art based on food so this was a nice break from what I traditionally do art-wise. I love using vibrant colors so this piece wasn't any different.
MANYÂ HEADS
12x9in
colored pencils, alcohol markers
This is a stylized self-portrait I completed in class. I wanted to work with a style I was not yet comfortable in, and I didn't want it to be a traditional, blank stare of a self-portrait, thus I made it more interesting by using the idea of having multiple heads and faces.
STAPLE PORTRAIT
3x2ft
staples on foamcore
This was an in-class assignment given to me. We had to create a self-portrait using only staples. I loved the challenge that this piece created and I loved using and uncommon media.
LONG GONE
16x12in
colored pencils, ink
This was an unusual still life I did as one of the summer assignments given by my school. I collect bones so I wanted to use a raccoon skull I found while in a forest as reference. I wanted to stipple this piece, as I had never done that before and wanted to try something new. Of course I had to add color because I believe unusual colors are a staple of my work.
UFO
7x10in
colored pencils
This was an up-close still life I completed while looking through old toys at school. I loved the vibrant colors that the toy had so it was very appealing to draw. This piece helped me to better understand working with colored pencils and using color on items that weren't people or animals. It was also a challenge to capture the reflection of light on the toy, which I liked.
